Autonomous driving is an emerging field with huge business potentials. As one of the leading players in China’s bus industry, Golden Dragon has been developing autonomous driving technologies for several years and has made impressive achievements. It has also mapped out great future plans for this promising field.
As early as 2012, Golden Dragon set up a special team to develop autonomous driving buses. Four years later, it successfully rolled out its first autonomous driving bus, ushering a brand new era for the bus maker.
In 2017, Golden Dragon released its second generation autonomous driving bus, ASTAR and obtained the permit for operation on open roads. Compared with its predecessor, the new vehicle achieves a higher level of integration and becomes more passenger friendly for the public transportation market. Having made a number of technological breakthroughs in environmental sensing, information integration and decision-making, ASTAR fully represents the highest technological standards in China’s autonomous driving bus industry.
Thanks to a number of technological innovations and breakthroughs, ASTAR is able to drive at a maximum speed of 50 km/h. Measuring six meters in length, the bus achieves L4 autonomous driving standards and much higher safety standards.
Having made huge investments in the new area, Golden Dragon has also expanded its research & development team of autonomous driving from just eight engineers and technicians to over 60, accounting for one fifth of its total R&D team.
